Antony Politcal Cartoon by Esteban Leguizamo

Out of all the characters in the play, Antony was the one that was perplexing.  He just dominated over everyone, yet he made himself out to be an imbecile in beginning.  Instead of  doing anything, he quite simply let everything happen. So in the cartoon he is doing exactly that, while reading his favorite book Julius Caesar.  One case that Antony shows that he couldn't care less what happened to his “dearest friend” Caesar was very apparent in the beginning, “Fear him not, Caesar; he’s not dangerous. He is a noble Roman, and well given.”(Act I, sc. ii, 206-207). Well, we all know how that ended up, very differently.  Funny thing is, Caesar was telling Antony why he feared him- which turned out to be true-yet he defended Cassius who is closest to the villain as you can get.  As it would turn out during the murder of Caesar, other Romans knew fully well of what was about to conspire. What of Antony, did he already know of what was to happen, also stabbing Caesar but in a different way. That is why Antony is reading the book while casually holding a dagger because is smart and very much involved. The dagger also just so happens to be red, mostly from the fact that he had already stabbed everyone in the back before anything could of happened. As the plot continues, Antony  just seems to be over everyone in a sense.
All of it just sums up to one conclusion, Antony is not fit be a leader.
